Sensation prevails after a six-month pregnant lady was raped in the Dhalai district of Tripura on Friday night.
The tribal pregnant lady was raped when she was alone in her home at Tuichakma ADC village in Gandachera under Dhalai district.
She was allegedly raped by one of her neighbours, identified as Daya Ranjan Chakma, taking the advantage of her loneliness.
The victim’s husband lodged a case against Daya Ranjan Chakma on Saturday morning in Raisysbari police station.
After receiving the complaint, police arrested Daya Ranjan and forwarded the case to the court on Saturday.
Police also arranged medical examinations of the victim woman.
Incidents of crime against women are on the rise in Tripura.
Three days back, a woman was tied to a light post, her hairs chopped off and beaten by a group of men for allegedly maintaining illicit relations.
So far nobody has been arrested by police in the case.
The chairperson of the Tripura State Women Commission, Barnali Goswami, expressed her disappointment over the issue.
In South Tripura last week, another woman was molested in the state and the village leaders tried to mitigate the crime by offering money to the victim woman.
