Ashok Bhattacharyya, the newly appointed Vice Chancellor (I/c) of Assam Women’s University (AMU) on Friday said that he had initiated a dialogue with Dispur over filling up of the sanctioned posts in Assam Women’s University and hoped that it would be done within three months.
Addressing a meeting after taking charge as AMU VC (I/c), following the resignation of Malini Goswami, Bhattacharyya said that he had spoken to a few ministers in Dispur regarding the sanctioned posts.
Most of these posts have been lying vacant since September 2013, when the University went on steam.
The sanctioned posts include that of Registrar, Academic Registrar, two posts of administrative assistants, Finance Officer and Controller of Examinations.
The post of VC was the only post which was filled but one year on that too has become ad hoc.
Bhattacharyya further said that if the posts were not filled soon, then he too would not be able to continue as he would not be able to justify his stand for long and that this could well become an election issue.
He thanked the outgoing VC Malini Goswami for taking certain critical steps towards the overall health and functionality of the only women’s university in the region.
Bhattacharya said that Malini Goswami’s input will be necessary for the future too for AWU since she led the University in a very critical phase when the very existence of the institution was under threat due to governmental neglect.
Malini Goswami, the outgoing VC, in her farewell speech thanked the AWU community for their cooperation and help in successfully running the University and reiterated her confidence that now AWU possessed all the attributes of a regular University and it’s bound to grow better in the coming days.
Malini Goswami, who was the former head of the department of Assamese in Gauhati University, had assumed charge of AWU in September 2019.
