ITBP personnel, deployed at India-China border.

Amid the ongoing face off with China at the Line of Actual Control (LAC) in Eastern Ladakh, a parliamentary panel will visit Leh on October 28, India Today reported.

During the two-day visit, the parliamentary panel will meet soldiers deployed at forward posts for a first-hand assessment of their working conditions.

This comes after a CAG report flagged acute shortage of high-altitude clothing and equipment, including snow goggles, for troops stationed in high-altitude areas in Ladakh.

The Parliament’s Public Accounts Committee (PAC), which is pursuing the CAG report, will be in Leh to understand the working condition of soldiers.

The Lok Sabha Speaker has reportedly granted the permission to the panel to visit Leh.

According to reports, the committee will hold informal discussions with Defence Ministry officials and the Northern Command of Army during its Leh visit.

The panel will also discuss procurement and issue of high altitude clothing, equipment, ration and housing.
