E-commerce giant Flipkart has come under fire after the company refused to accept an order from a customer from   Nagland saying that the company did not take order outside India.

“Sorry to hear that. We appreciate your interest in shopping with us. However, sellers do not provide our services outside India,” the Flipkart twitter handle replied.

The post, which has since been deleted, drawn angry response from social media users because of the ignorance the person handling the account, did not know that Nagaland is a state in India.

The outrage on social media prompted an apology later in the day from the Flipkart team.

The post went viral after singer Alobo Naga shared the post.

Many accused the company of discrimination and racism against the people of the north-east.

Among those who commented was also Nagaland’s Director General of Police for Borders Affairs, Rupin Sharma, who wrote, “Although not with Flipkart, Even I had this experience once. Nagaland is India #Flipkart.”

A comment was screenshotted showing Flipkart’s apology. “We are extremely sorry about the inadvertent error earlier. We strike to ensure serviceability across the nation, including regions in Nagaland. We are happy to connect with you and provide currently available options,” the post said.
