As part of Assam government’s historic initiative to ensure land rights of landless indigenous people of the state, a total of 2692 families were handed over land pattas and land allotment certificates in Dibrugarh district on Monday.
A district-level ceremonial land patta and allotment certificate distribution function was held at India Club, Dibrugarh.
The function, which was organised by the Revenue and Disaster Management Department, Assam, in association with Dibrugarh District Administration, was attended by union minister of state for food processing industries Rameswar Teli.
Speaking on the occasion, Teli termed the day’s event as a remarkable step by the state government towards the protection of land rights of the indigenous people.
He said that a large number of indigenous people of the state have been facing a lot of problems for not having land rights and ensuring the land rights of these people is the prime objective of the government.
“The state government has formulated a new land policy and the process of giving land pattas and land allotment certificates will be a continuous process,” he added.
Teli distributed land pattas and land allotment certificates to 21 families ceremonially.
It may be mentioned here that among these 2692 landless indigenous families, 102 families were given land pattas and the rest 2590 families were given land allotment certificates.
