Arunachal Pradesh Legislative Assembly speaker Pasang D Sona on Sunday reopened the revamped sub-divisional library in Mechuka for the public and students.
Mechuka, a sub-division in the Shi-Yomi district, is around 486 km from the state capital, Itanagar.
The library, which was lying defunct for a long time, had gone through a massive renovation and facelift recently.
New volumes of books were also procured and added to the library’s book stock, officials said.
Speaking on the occasion, Sona said the library should not only cater to the needs of the book readers of the district, but a library class for each standard should also be incorporated into the routine of the schools nearby.
The speaker further informed that the library, in the due course of time, would be benefitted by donations from the Raja Ram Mohan Roy Book Trust and contributions from NGOs like Bamboosa and others, which are active in the field.
Sona also attended a coordination meeting of heads of departments (HoDs) at the ADC’s office, which was chaired by the Shi-Yomi deputy commissioner, Mito Dirchi.
The speaker took stock of the progress of various projects and schemes being implemented in the district and asked the HoDs to expedite all the development projects on a priority basis.
Sona as well as the DC took serious note of the absenteeism of HoDs from their places of posting.
