Sikkim’s COVID-19 tally crossed the 3000-mark as 42 more people tested positive for the virus in the last 24 hours.

One more Covid patient succumbed to the infection in the State on Saturday, taking the fatalities to 41.

The 77-year-old woman from Bahai School Road at Tadong, who was admitted to the ICU on Friday with comorbidities, passed away last night.

An RTPCR test was done on her, which confirmed that she was COVID positive. She was suffering from diabetes and kidney ailment.

The State now has 3,011 COVID-19 cases of which 642 are active, while 2,328 people have recovered from the disease, State information education communication (IEC) member Sonam Bhutia said.

A total of 50,987 samples have been tested for COVID-19 in the State so far, the official added.

Of the new cases, East Sikkim reported 39 with majority of these cases detected in Gangtok.

South and West districts reported one and two cases respectively.

Currently, a total of nine positive patients are undergoing treatment in the ICU.
