President Ram Nath Kovind and Prime Minister Narendra Modi paid tributes to Mahatma Gandhi on his 151st birth anniversary at Rajghat in New Delhi on Friday.

“The 151st anniversary is a good occasion to think through our priorities in the light of Gandhiji’s life and thought, and prepare ourselves again to hear his voice in our hearts,” President Kovind tweeted.

In his address to the nation on the eve of the birth anniversary of national icons Mahatma Gandhi and Lal Bahadur Shahstri on Wednesday, President Kovind appealed to people to follow the Gandhian ideals of truth and non-violence.

The President also asked the citizens of the nation to make efforts for a clean and prosperous India.
Gandhi’s message of truth, non-violence and love paves the way for the welfare of the world by bringing harmony and equality in the society, said Kovind.

While paying tribute to Mahatma Gandhi, PM Modi tweeted: “We bow to beloved Bapu on Gandhi Jayanti.”

“There is much to learn from his life and noble thoughts,” the PM said.

“May Bapu’s ideals keep guiding us in creating a prosperous and compassionate India,” Modi added.

Meanwhile, Prime Minister Modi recently announced launch of ‘100 days campaign’ on Gandhi Jayanti to ensure piped safe water in schools and anganwadi centres across the country.

Modi appealed to the states to make the best use of this campaign to ensure provision of potable piped water supply in these public institutions.

Ensuring safe water to children is a priority, as they are the most vulnerable to water-borne diseases, therefore provisions have been made under Jal Jeevan Mission for ensuring safe water through tap water connection in schools, anganwadi centres, health care centres, etc.
