Amid probe into the anomalies in the process of the recruitment of sub-inspectors in Assam Police, the chairman of State Level Police Recruitment Board (SLPRB), Assam, Pradeep Kumar has resigned from his position.

The anomalies in the recruitment came to light after the question paper of the written test for sub-inspectors in Assam Police was leaked hours ahead of the commencement of the examination.

According to reports, Pradeep Kumar has resigned as the State Level Police Recruitment Board chief taking moral responsibility of the question paper leak case which resulted in the cancellation of the written test.

Pradeep Kumar is a retired IPS officer of 1984 batch.

Assam Police have already nabbed a total of 13 people on charges of being involved in the question paper leak case.

Two of the prime accused in the case, former DIG PK Dutta and BJP leader Diban Deka are absconding, are still absconding.

The CID sleuths have raided the residence of PK Dutta and recovered more than 8 kg of gold.

The CID has also carried out raids in his hotels and detained two of the hotel managers.

The right-hand man of the former cop, identified as Jaidev Baruah, was arrested by the CID from Tinsukia.

Nalbari Police on Saturday arrested 5 candidates, who allegedly appeared in the mock written test conducted in the Thank You Lodge in Guwahati a day ahead of the actual test.

The arrested candidates include Sanjib Barman, Mridul Barman, Harkat Ali, Parth Pratim Pathak.

Assam Police have intensified operation against the accused involved in the question paper leak case after Assam chief minister Sarbananda Sonowal asked the CID and Crime Branch to carry out a proper investigation.
