With 88,650 new COVID19 positive cases registered in the last 24 hours, India’s total tally on Sunday neared the 60-lakh mark.

In the last 24 hours, India recorded 1,124 more COVID19 deaths, taking the death toll to 94,503.

The country has so far registered a total of 59,92,532 COVID19 positive cases, out of which 9,56,402 are active.

A total of 49,41,627 patients, who were earlier infected by COVID19, have recovered from the disease and discharged from the hospitals of Covid care centres across the country.

About 75% of the new cases were from 10 states and Union territories, the Union health ministry data said.

India’s recovery rate is 82.46% while the fatality rate has come down to 1.58%, according to the data.

Maharashtra continues to be the worst-hit state in the country with 13,21,176 positive cases, including 35,191 deaths.

Maharashtra is followed by Andhra Pradesh, Tamil Nadu, and Karnataka.

India has conducted 9,87,861 sample tests on Saturday, taking the total tests so far to 7,12,57,836, according to the Indian Council of Medical Research data.

New recoveries in India have exceeded the new cases for several successive days during the period of the past nine days.

There has been a steep increase in the number of recovered patients.

“The single day recoveries on an average have been more than 90,000,” the Union health ministry said, adding, “92,043 recoveries have been registered in the last 24 hours in the country, while the number of new confirmed cases stands at 88,600,” the Union health ministry said in a statement.

With this, the total number of recoveries are close to 50 lakhs (49,41,627).

Maintaining its upward trend, the national recovery rate presently stands at 82.46%, the ministry said.
