With 161 new cases, Manipur’s total number of active cases of COVID-19 has increased to 9,537 on Thursday, officials said.

Dr Khoirom Sasheekumar Mangang, additional director and spokesperson of the health department said on Thursday that 131 persons (80 males,51 females) from the general population and 30 personnel from central armed police force were confirmed as new COVID-19 positive cases in the past 24 hours.

The new patients from the general population are from ten districts, he added.

Seven persons out of the general population are returnees from other states while the rest 124 are locals without any significant travel history, it said adding they are being shifted to the COVID care facilities.

All necessary medical precautionary measures like containment and contact tracing are in place, it added.

“Today, there is no report of death. The cumulative number of deaths is 62,” he added.

It may be mentioned here that a total of 261 persons were discharged from eight COVID care facilities on Thursday.

The recovery rate rose to 75.26 per cent.

The cumulative number of positive cases is 9,537 while the numbers of active and recovered cases are 2,106 and 7,369 respectively.
