Meghalaya continued to record more than 100 COVID-19 new cases everyday in the last two weeks.

On Sunday too, 103 new COVID-19 positive cases were reported, while governor Satya Pal Malik tested negative for the virus.

The Raj Bhavan has 59 active cases.

“Governor got himself tested again on Sunday , and he was found negative. On three earlier occasions also since his taking oath as Governor of Meghalaya he was tested as per health protocols and was found negative,” secretary to governor, Pravin Bakshi said.

“All 59 active cases of Raj Bhavan which comprises officers, staff, attendants, drivers, security personnel are all fine and asymptomatic. These are staff and personnel who were tested positive in three rounds of testing. They would also be re-tested according to existing testing protocols,” Bakshi informed.

In his updates on Sunday evening, Director of Health Services (MI), Dr. Aman War informed that of the 103 fresh cases, 78 cases were detected in East Khasi Hills.

The number of active cases went up to 2,111 in the State, of which, East Khasi Hills district has 1,510 cases.

Thirty more COVID-19 patients also recovered from the viral infection, taking the number of recoveries to 2,513 in the State till date.

East Khasi Hills District deputy commissioner (DC) Isawanda Laloo has extended the night curfew in the district from September 21 to 28 between 9 PM to 5 AM each day.

Due to the spread and detection of new positive cases, several residential areas and houses and commercial complexes have been declared as containment zones in the city by the East Khasi Hills district administration, in the wake of detection of COVID-19 positive cases in these premises.
