Assam health minister Himanta Biswa Sarma on Saturday announced that the state government would provide 100% support to hospitals for liver, kidney and bone marrow transplantation of children below 12 years.

Announcing this on his Twitter handle, Sarma said the health department will conduct the first screening camp for the ailing children on October 10, 2020.

Health minister Sarma made the announcement on the occasion of the Seva Saptah.

The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) has organised a ‘Seva Saptah’ from September 14 to 20 coinciding with Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s birthday.

The ruling party is undertaking social initiatives across the nation during this week-long event.

“#Seva Saptah. On this occasion, I took the privilege of announcing another big program. Assam Govt will provide 100% support in best of hospitals for liver, kidney & bone marrow transplant to children below 12 years. We will conduct first screening camp on October 10, 2020,” Sarma tweeted.

The health minister on Saturday handed over air tickets to 70 children, who will fly to Bengaluru and Kolkata for cardiac surgery and bone marrow transplantation.

“Happy to hand over air tickets to 70 children who will fly to Bengaluru & Kolkata for cardiac surgery and bone marrow transplant ~ A small contribution from Health Department of Assam for # SevaSaptah,” Sarma informed in another tweet while sharing pictures of the event.

“All cost of travel and surgeries will be borne by Health Department of Assam Government,” the health minister informed.

“We wish the children and their family the very best,” he added.
