All Assam Students’ Union (AASU) and Asom Jatiyatabadi Yuba Chatra Parishad (AJYCP) on Monday floated a new political party named Assam Jatiya Parishad (AJP).

The name was announced by the conveners of Assam Advisory Committee convenors Krishna Gopal Bhattacharya and Basanta Deka in Guwahati.

The Assam Advisory Committee was formed to suggest the two students’ organisations on their future course of action.

With the slogan “Ghorey Ghorey Aami” (We will be in every household), the new party aims to overthrow the current BJP-led coalition government in the state.

Former AASU leader Chittaranjan Basumatary has been made in-charge of Jonbai, and Dhemaji.

Raju Phukan has been made in-charge of Golaghat, Jorhat and Bokakhat.

Former state minister Jagadish Bhuyan has been made the coordinator of the party.

The induction of members into the party will begin from Tuesday.
