Legendary Indian classical vocalist Pandit Jasraj passed away on Monday in the US.
The news has been confirmed by his daughter Durga Jasraj.
He was 90 at the time of his demise.
Born in Haryana, Jasraj was living in New Jersey of the United States.
A recipient of various prestigious awards including Padma Shri, Padma Bhushan and Padma Vibhushan, the cause of his death is yet to be known.
The legendary musician represented the last of a generation of classical vocalists, which includes 83-year-old Kishori Amonkar, the doyenne of the Jaipur Atrauli gharana.
He belonged to the Mewati Gharana.
According to a report, Jasraj was introduced to vocal music by his father and was later trained as a tabla accompanist under the tutelage of his elder brother, Pandit Pratap Narayan.
He started training as a vocalist when he was 14 of age.
His riyaz once lasted for 14 hours a day, the report said.
Last year a minor planet between Mars and Jupiter was named after Pandit Jasraj, who taught music in India, Canada and the US.
