The Tinsukia district administration in upper Assam has announced a 7-day total lockdown in the district in view of the surge in Covid-19 cases.

Tinsukia deputy commissioner Bhaskar Pegu on Tuesday said that all the areas covered under the Tinsukia Municipal board and Makum Municipal Board will be under strict lockdown from Wednesday (August 5) to August 11.

However, essential services within the mentioned areas will remain unhindered during this lockdown period.

On the other hand, Tinsukia district administration has directed that Rapid Antigen Test for detection of COVID-19.

The test is mandatory for all shopkeepers, employees; delivery persons etc. to open their shops and other permitted establishments in all market places in Municipal areas of Tinsukia district.

The health department in collaboration with municipality & district administration will be taking steps for extensive COVID-19 testing.

So far 1,881 coronavirus cases have been detected in Tinsukia district.
