Amid surge in number of Covid-19 positive cases, a 14-day complete lockdown came into effect in Manipur at 2 pm on Thursday.
The Covid-19 positive cases in the state have already crossed 2,000 mark.
Manipur chief minister N Biren Singh had on Wednesday announced a total lockdown of seven days, which he said could be extended to another week.
“In view of the current COVID-19 situation in Manipur, the emergency State cabinet meeting has decided to impose total lockdown for 7 days starting from 02:00 pm of July 23, 2020 which might be extended further for 7 more days,” Singh said in a tweet after the meeting.
I appeal all to abide by lockdown guidelines, he said.
Manipur has recorded a total of 2060 coronavirus cases. The state currently has 632 active cases while 1428 have recovered.
Supply of essential items which include home delivery of essential commodities, collection, processing, distribution and sale of milk and milk products and locally-based retail stores dealing with essential commodities have been allowed to operate across the state 6 am to 10 am.
Moreover, all goods services are allowed to cross the interstate border at Mao in Senapati, Jiribam and Jessami in Ukhrul districts.
The movement of all trucks and other carrier vehicles with two drivers and one helper, including empty trucks after delivery of goods or for pick up of goods are allowed.
Shops for truck repairs and dhabas on highways are allowed with social distancing prescribed
