In view of the rising number of Covid-19 cases in Guwahati, the state government has decided to set up four new Covid care centres in the city.

Assam health minister Himanta Biswa Sarma said that one Covid care centre will be set up at Girijananda Choudhury Institute at Azara on outskirts of Guwahati.

The center will have 900 beds with a team of 50 doctors, he said.

Minister Sarma said 10,000 beds will be made ready for COVID-19 patients at different Covid care centres in the state.

He said that the number of coronavirus cases in the state is likely to go up in the state in the month of August.

So far 48 people have succumbed to the disease in the state and the number of positive cases has reached 19, 7 54.

The state currently has a total of 6,815 positive cases.
