A spurt in the number of active cases in the Itanagar Capital Region (ICR) of Arunachal Pradesh has forced the district administration to put 5 buildings/houses in Naharlagun near Itanagar under the containment zone category.

As per an order issued by ICR deputy commissioner, Komkar Dulom, on Monday, the Tadar Pinda building at G-Extension, Tadar Mongku building, Parboti house and Upper Police Colony in E-Sector and the Techi Mopung house at Medical Colony have been contained and its inmates have been put under home quarantine for a period of 14 days with immediate effect.

The containment order was issued following a report of the rapid response team, the DC said.

The order said “the inmates would not be allowed to move out from the aforementioned buildings/houses for a period of 14 days or unless permitted by the medical team.”

People will not be allowed to enter or exit the areas without prior approval and the movement for supply of essential items and other emergency services shall be regulated. The essential items required by the inmates shall be provided by the extra assistant commissioner by coordinating with shopkeepers in coordination with the police and health workers, the order said.

Police personnel shall be deployed by ICR superintendent of police in areas to regulate the movement while the district medical officer (DMO) shall deploy staff to oversee the immediate medical needs of the inmates as may be required and also for thermal scanning, it added.

The DMO has been directed to carry out the Antigen/RT-PCR/TrueNAT testing of all the inmates at the earliest, instruct them on the period of quarantine and other follow up action to be taken.

“The sanitation of the building shall be carried out as and when required by the IMC and no gathering will be allowed in the buildings/houses,” the order said while adding that the perimeter of the containment area shall be the building areas for now and no buffer zone has been created.

The state government on Saturday extended the lockdown in the ICR that consists of Itanagar, the state capital, Naharlagun, Nirjuli and Banderdewa and in Doimukh in Papum Pare district for another week till 5 pm on July 20.

The lockdown was extended after the region witnessed a spike in the number of coronavirus cases.

The ICR has a total of 123 active Covid-19 cases, the highest in the state as of June 12 and it is followed by Changlang with 38 cases.

Arunachal at present has 219 active cases while 138 patients have recovered from the virus so far.

The state has registered two Covid-19 related deaths.
