Sikkim Chief Minister Pawan Chamling, on Tuesday laid the foundation stone of the Ashta Chiranjeevi Dham at Nagi dara under the 13 Namthang constituency.

Along with the religious Dham, the CM also inaugurated a 12 room school building-cum-multipurpose hall at the Namthang Senior Secondary School premises.

While addressing the gathering, Chamling spoke about Ashta Chiranjeevi and his importance in Hindu mythology and culture. He hoped the Dham will open up various commercial and employment opportunities for the people in the area.

The Ashta-Chiranjeevi Dham project initiative undertaken by the Tourism and Civil Aviation Department will be constructed at an estimated cost of 83.414 crore. It will be built on 6.5 acres of land and a 54 feet high bronze statue of Hanuman will function as the main attraction of the venue.

The Dham will be built keeping in mind the sustainable development of the area and the buildings will be constructed in an eco friendly manner.
