The Nagaland government rejected the proposal of Kohima deputy commissioner Gregory Thejawalie for a seven-day total lockdown of Kohima municipal area with immediate effect.
In a letter to Thejawalie, principal secretary (home) Abhijit Sinha said the high powered committee (HPC) at a meeting on Friday deliberated on the proposal and decided that the total lockdown as proposed may not be warranted for now in Kohima municipal areas.
Sinha said the HPC took the decision taking into consideration the views of all concerned, including the health and family welfare department, and all the relevant facts.
Instead, the government directed that the District Task Force Kohima to follow all the protocols of the containment plans for all such areas where positive cases have come up, do rigorous contact tracing and listing, active surveillance and other necessary activities for preventing and containing the spread of the COVID-19.
Thejawalie on Thursday proposed the total lockdown to enhance the ongoing active surveillance, early detection of suspected case, break the chain of transmission and prevent the spread of the virus to new areas in Kohima.
