A 53-year-old non-symptomatic patient with no comorbidities succumbed to COVID 19  at IITG COVID care centre in Guwahati on Friday.

The deceased has been identified as IRBn Havildar Hareswar Nath.

Informing about the death, health minister Himanta Biswa Sarma tweeted, “With a heavy heart, I inform you that Shri Hareswar Nath, 53 years old, a non-symptomatic patient with no comorbidities succumbed to COVID 19  at IITG COVID care centre. His oxygen levels plummeted to 90 within hours and he collapsed. My deepest condolences to his family. RIP.”

Nath is the fifth patient to succumbed to COVID-19 on Friday.

Earlier, four more patients had died of the infection.

They are Rakhal Deb (42), Ramesh Kayastha (68), Sukhamay Bhowmik (72) and Arachidonic Baruah Saikia (70).

All of them were undergoing treatment at the ICU of Guwahati Medical College and Hospital.

Nath’s death was condoled by Assam police, including the DGP as well.

With a heavy heart, we are saddened to inform that Hav. Hareswar Nath, 16 IRBn, who tested positive for #CoronaVirus on July 7, 2020, passed away today. Our deepest condolences are with the bereaved family and colleagues. So far 33 patients in the state have died of COVID-19,” tweeted Assam Police.

“We stand united and in solidarity with Hav. Hareswar Nath’s family in this hour of grief. The concerned have been directed to provide all necessary assistance to them,” tweeted Assam DGP Bhaskar Jyoti Mahanta.

In a tweet, ADGP (Law and Order) GP Singh said, “Hav. Hareswar Nath, 16 IRBn, who tested positive for #CoronaVirus on July 7, 2020 passed away today. Our deepest condolences with the bereaved family and colleagues. @assampolice rededicates itself to the service of people of Assam. @DGPAssamPolice @CMOfficeAssam.”
