A day after the Indian government banned Chinese video-sharing app TikTok, similar home-grown apps like Chingari have seen surge in downloads.
Chingari, a similar short video-making app like that of TikTok, has been installed by more than 3.5 million users so far.
TikTok is no longer available to download on Google Play Store and App Store.

The Indian government on Monday banned popular Chinese app TikTok and 58 other apps, linked to China, citing security reasons amid border tension between India and China.
Informing about the surge in downloads of their app by new users, Chingari co-founder Sumit Ghosh tweeted on Tuesday: “All previous records will be shattered today! Approx 10,000 users per min in the app. 3 million videos swiped/watched per hour.”
Ghosh also said: “26 million videos watched in last 24 hours. 90,000 new users joining the app per hour. And guess what? Our tech and Infra handles it with ease Smiling face with sunglasses.”

Chingari on its official Twitter handle claimed the original app has been downloaded by 3.5 million users.

Other home-grown video-making apps like Mitron TV and Trell are also looking for a brighter future.
Mitron TV was launched in May.
According to reports, the app has already garnered over 10 million downloads in India.
“We welcome all the Tiktok and Chinese Apps content creators with open arms to come and engage on Trell which is 100% Indian App,” a report quoted Pulkit Agarwal, Trell co-founder, as saying.
“As the largest Indian Lifestyle Social App we will continue to ensure that the privacy and data of users will be protected and will remain within the boundaries of our nation. Jai Hind,” he added.
