The Mizoram government on Friday relaxed the ongoing total lockdown in Aizawl municipal area, district headquarters and containment zones to ease off the public due to a dip in new coronavirus cases in the past two days and absence of community spread in the state till date.

The new order came into effect from Friday and will last till June 30.

Earlier on June 21, the state government extended complete lockdown in Aizawl municipal area, all other district headquarters and containment areas till June 30 to curtail further spread of COVID-19.

The order issued on Friday said that section D. 1 of the June 21 order has been lifted and accordingly business shops and commercial activities will be normally functional in all the areas, including Aizawl municipal, district headquarters and containment zones.

However, shops at commercial hub areas and shopping complexes will be opened on an alternate day based on the arrangement made by district deputy commissioners in consultation of local or village level task forces, the order said.

The new order allowed the inter-district or intra-state movement and in the case of Aizawl municipal area, commercial vehicles like a city bus, maxicab, taxi and private vehicles will be allowed to ply on “odd-even” systems.

Vehicles, which last registration number ends with an even number (2, 4,6,8.0) will ply on Monday, Wednesday and Friday, while those ending with an odd number will ply on Tuesday, Thursday and Saturday.

No vehicles will be allowed to ply on Sunday except for medical emergencies and those exempted.

Lifting the ban on public movement, the order also allowed people in all parts of the state to step out of their houses.

Apart from the above relaxation, all restrictions made as per the order issued on June 21 will stand valid till June 30, the order said.
