The Dimapur district administration, in the last two days, has collected Rs 13,500 as fine from people who did not wear masks.

According to Dimapur deputy commissioner Anoop Kinchi on Wednesday, the collected money will be deposited in the government treasury.

Wearing of masks has been made mandatory in the district to fight against COVID-19 pandemic.

The district administration has been making announcements through public address system throughout Dimapur since April asking people to wear masks covering the nose and mouth.

Though more than 90 per cent of the people are seen wearing masks, there are some people who do not wear masks.

A few others, on the other hand, were found hanging the masks in their ears, neck or keep it in the vehicle.

The DC informed that a fine of Rs 100 was imposed on the defaulters.

He said the names and addresses of such people are being recorded so that sterner action as per the Disaster Management Act can be initiated against them.
