Justice still eludes the family of Khairul Haque, a Bodoland People’s Front (BPF) worker who was assassinated by an unidentified gunman at No. 2 Garuajhar in Udalguri district on February 21.
The All BTC Minorities Students’ Union (ABMSU) have sought an impartial high-level investigation into the killing.
A delegate of the students’ body comprising of ABMSU general secretary Alison Hussain, finance secretary Jeherul Islam visited Haque’s family.
Talking to the media Taison Hussain alleged that due to the lack of proper investigation, police have not been able to solve the case and apprehend the culprits.
“Even after the administration assured to solve the case within a day or two, the police has not been able to solve the case. This is unfortunate,” Hussain said.
Hussain further alleged that the government machinery has failed miserably to secure the life and property of the citizens.
He also alleged that after the third Bodo pact was signed on January 27, 2020, only a sizeable number of illegal arms were deposited and this has raised doubts on the minds of common citizen about the presence of such weapons in the Bodo belt.
“Though BPF government had promised of ex-gratia and a government job to the next of kin of the victim, however, it was never fulfilled,” he alleged.
“We have lent all possible cooperation to the Paneri police investigating the case, but the police have not made any breakthrough in the case, let alone arrest of culprits,” rued victim’s brother.
