The hoteliers in Mangaldai town are confused over media reports quoting the Darrang district administration that their hotels would be used as quarantine centres for the people returning from outside.
Talking to Northeast Now Anupam Deka, owner of Hotel Kharkhowa said that he came to about such development only via media.
“The administration has taken our rates. Apart from that, I have not been communicated further,” Deka said.
“We have been called for a preliminary discussion some twenty days back. After that there was no correspondence from the district authority,” said Siddhartha Baruah, owner of Hotel Siddharth Palace.
“I can’t accept any such proposal. My residence is also attached to my hotel and my elderly parents live with me here,” said hotelier Mriganka Saharia.
“Moreover, my staff is also unwilling to serve in such a situation,” he added.
The Darrang district administration has officially declared their decision to use four hotels of Mangaldai town as temporary quarantine centres.
Apart from these hotels, the administration has also announced of using four other government educational institutions as primary setups to accommodate around nine thousand returnees.
Till Friday, a total of 21 persons have arrived in the district and they have been quarantined in different government hospitals.
