A village authority in Senapati district of Manipur has built 80 huts that will function as quarantine centres to accommodate natives who are expected to return from various parts of the country during the lockdown.
The construction is taking place at Tungjoy village, about 118 km north of Imphal located under the Paomata sub-division and these 80 huts were divided into three divisions.
The huts were constructed by 600 men folks of the village with the village authority funds and other local materials.
Each hut which consists of one bed and gas table besides an electricity charging point, can accommodate one person.
Family can use two huts if necessary, according to chairman M S Marcus of Tungjoy village authority council (VAC).
The ration has been stocked by the VAC along with families, says chairman Marcus.
Three information centres have been set up for the three divisions.
The steps were taken up following a decision of the VAC, he added.
It is said that about 100 people of Tungjoy village are believed to be stranded outside Manipur.
Appreciating the move of the village authority, the state chief minister N Biren Singh had tweeted, “My salute,Tungjoy Village Authority have set up 80 huts for quarantine of their villagers who are going to come from outside the state. Each hut is fitted with a bed, separate toilet, gas table, electricity with charging socket. Water supply is provided at various locations.”
Later in a tweet, minister for development of north eastern region, Jitendra Singh, too, appreciated both the villagers and Biren Singh for their efforts.
It may be worth mentioning here that first and second COVID-19 cases were reported in the state of Manipur on March 24 and April 2.
But both the cases have recovered during treatment and discharged from two government hospitals in Imphal on April 12 and 21 respectively.
Since then no fresh COVID-19 positive case is reported till date.
