The Arunachal Pradesh government on Friday announced to levy a ‘cess’ of 25 percent on the maximum retail price of all alcoholic beverages including Indian Made Foreign Liquor (IMFL) effective Saturday midnight.

The decision was taken in a cabinet meeting on Friday chaired by chief minister Pema Khandu.

Khandu who took to the twitter to announce the same wrote, “To augment States own Resources and to generate much needed revenue, State Cabinet decided to levy a ‘Cess’ of 25% on MRP of all Alcoholic Beverages including IMFL, Beer, Imported Alcoholic Beverages & Wine etc. wef 00:01 AM of 09.05.2020.”

The state government had on May 04 levied a cess of 10 percent on wholesale prices (inclusive of VAT) of IMFL and beer was on effect since May 05.
