A total of 955 persons stranded at different places in Northeast have so far returned to Meghalaya.

As many as 557 people entered through the Byrnihat check gate in Ri-Bhoi district, followed by 277 people who entered through the Bajengdoba check gate in North Garo Hills district, Assam Tribune reported.

As many as 76 persons entered through the Ratacherra gate in East Jaintia Hills district and 45 people through the Tikrikilla gate in West Garo Hills district.

The Meghalaya government started to take in the people belonging to the State, who are stranded in other North Eastern States, from Tuesday.

The returning persons are being screened and tested, if necessary, at the check gates.

They will be put into 14-day home quarantine, together with their family members once they are back, Government said in a notification.
