Assam Chief Minister Sarbananda Sonowal on Friday directed all the Deputy Commissioners to play more pro-active role in improving work environment and building team spirit amongst all government departments.

Chief Minister Sonowal also asked the DCs to extensively tour the district and personally monitor the implementation of government schemes and develop better government-public relations.

While reviewing the implementation of government schemes through ‘Unnati’ video-conference with the Deputy Commissioners from Janata Bhawan on Friday, the Chief Minister said, “The Deputy Commissioners being the heads of the districts must go the extra mile to boost team spirit amongst all government departments. They must frequently interact with the district officers and develop better work environment.”

Chief Minister Sonowal also said, “They (DCs) must routinely visit the field to monitor implementation of schemes. This will motivate the employees to work harder and bring people closer to administration.”

The Chief Minister further stressed on developing competitive attitude by the DCs and improving their relationship with the public. Coming down heavily on corruption, the Chief Minister asked the DCs to strictly monitor the activities of all departments and crack the whip on errant officials.

The Chief Minister also underlined the importance of expeditiously carrying out embankment repair works and asked the DCs to ensure completion of the same within April 30 apart from advance preparation for tackling flood in the state.

Speaking about the importance of error-free NRC update, the Assam CM also directed the DCs to work diligently while carrying out the family tree verification process which has already begun in the state. He also asked the DCs of Cachar, Karimganj, Hailakandi, Dhubri and South Salmara to facilitate swift execution of installation of flood light on the fence along India-Bangladesh border.

Moreover, reviewing the Special Nutrition Programme, the Chief Minister took strong note of delay in release of fund to AWCs and asked all DCs to immediately release the fund for hassle-free implementation of the programme. He also asked the DCs to speed up utilization of MLA Area Development Fund in their respective districts, stated a government press communiqué.

Besides, various rural development schemes like MGNREGA, implementation of Vendor Management Policy, IAY and PMAY, utilization of fund under 14th Finance Commissioner, etc. were also reviewed by the Chief Minister. Sonowal asked the DCs to take appropriate steps so that work completion rates of the rural development schemes improve in the state.

Chief Minister’s Legal Adviser Santanu Bharali, Chief Secretary Vinod Kumar Pipersenia, Additional Chief Secretary P&RD MGVK Bhanu, Chief Minister’s Principal Secretary Sanjay Lohia and several other senior officers were also present in the video-conference, it added.
