Officials of the Mizoram excise and narcotics department seized 78.32 grams of heroin and arrested a peddler in Champhai on Tuesday.

In a statement issued by the excise department, it was informed that the operation was carried out in collaboration with volunteers of Zotlang village level task force.

“The contraband worth over Rs 1.8 lakh in the local market was smuggled from Myanmar,” the statement added.

“One MaxiCab used for transporting the contraband was also seized by the department,” the statement added.

The accused has been identified as one Lalremthanga- a resident of Zokhawthar village on the Mizoram-Myanmar border.

He was booked under the relevant section of Narcotic Drugs & Psychotropic Substances (ND&PS) Act, 1985, the statement added.
