Assam transport minister Chandra Mohan Patowary on Tuesday conducted a review meeting of the activities of industry and transport departments with senior officials.

During the discussion, Patowary directed that Transport Department in accordance with the orders of the Ministry of Road, Transport and Highways, Government of India has decided that the validity of Fitness, Permit (all types), Driving License, Registration or any other documents whose extension of validity could not or not likely to be processed due to the COVID-19 national lockdown, and which have expired since February 1, 2020 or would expire by June 30, 2020 will be treated to be valid till June 30, 2020.

Taking stock of the industrial sector, the minister stated that the Standard Operating Procedure (SOP) for industries issued by Government of India should be followed in letter and spirit.

The minister directed the officials that industry officials and district general managers should enforce strict compliance of the COVID-19 guidelines for the industrial units.

These guidelines allow the industrial units to operate after submitting an undertaking to the deputy commissioners of the respective districts that they are committed to follow all safety guidelines issued by Government of India.

Commissioner and Secretary, Dr K K Dwivedi; MD, ASTC, A P Tiwari; commissioner, Transport, Adil Khan; secretary (Industries and Commerce) Manjula Saikia; secretary (Transport) Razvee Hussain and other officials were present in the meeting.
