The Patacharkuchi Press Club, one of the common platforms of the local media persons, engaged in various newspapers on Tuesday distributed relief material among the hawkers of the Patacharkuchi area in Bajali sub-division.

Amid the COVID19 outbreak a rumour was spread that newspapers could be a carrier of the deadly virus following which the subscribers and readers of the newspapers refused to take copies of the daily newspapers.

However, after a clarification from the World Health Organisation (WHO) two news paper agencies, owned by Suresh Sarma and Abhoy Sarma continue to deliver service of distribution of the daily newspapers with the help of their hawkers.

The members of the press club on Tuesday felicitated the agents and hawkers with Assamese phulam gamosa and face masks.

Packets of essential food items were also distributed among the hawkers.

The hawkers were Achinta Roy, Jonmani Haloi, Gajen Roy, Pradip Deka, Hirak jyoti Deka, Pabitra Haloi, and Nirupam Sarma.

Meanwhile, as part of their initiative to help the poor and needy people of the state, Rajnusa Foundation on Tuesday distributed relief materials including food and other essential items among 400 families in Bajali under Barpeta district.

Rajnusa Foundation is working in the socio-cultural field of the state since 2016.

The foundation took the initiative of distributing relief materials in Ghatbar Saderi, Doloigaon, Barsaderi,  Bhotanta Saderi, Jojia and Dezarpara villages under Bajali sub-division.

Relief materials were distributed from door to door strictly following social distancing and hygiene.

The door-to-door campaign was participated by Meghnath Talukdar, Dr Pratim Talukdar and Mriganka Talukdar from Rajnusa Foundation.

The local volunteers including Bhaskar Roy, Gautam Talukdar, Dr Rupam Choudhury, Dr Gaurav Sarma, Dr Pragyan Das and Dr Rituraj Barman also offered their services for the greater interest of the society.
