The Dhubri Police personnel through their noble initiative ‘Helping Hand’ has started delivering essential supplies like medicines to the senior citizens at their doorsteps amid COVID-19 lockdown.

This has been done to prevent the senior citizens from venturing out also providing help in case of medical emergency to elderly people and pregnant women.

In order to avail this facility provided by Dhubri police, the needy person have to send the proper address with contact number of the person in need of help including the prescriptions via WhatsApp to the mobile number 8638100724, said police.

Trinayan Bhuyan, deputy superintendent of police (Headquarter), Dhubri said, “Among other issues we have noticed problems faced by elderly people and pregnant women during the lockdown period.”

“These people are in urgent need to be under medical supervision and it becomes more vital when their closest of support base are stranded elsewhere due to lockdown or busy playing their role in the fight against COVID-19,” he added.

“Our small gestures make life a little easier for senior citizens; we are doing it as part of our social responsibility. Police have so far received as many as ten distress calls asking for essentials,” he also said.

Gopal Kar said, “I am posted at Bongaigoan but due to lockdown, I could not able to go out and give medicines to my parents who live alone in Sapatgram of Dhubri district and my mother is suffering from chronic disease and she was urgent needs of some live saving drugs on daily basis, but she too can’t go out during lockdown.”

“I sent the message to police Helping Hand Whatsapp number with details and my parents received the same after few hours,” Kar added.

“There was a time when we used to be scared of calling the police, but now we treat them as our family members,” he also said.

Dhubri have two positive cases of COVID-19 and accordingly the district administration and police have heightened vigil round the clock.
