The police arrested 35 people and registered 28 cases so far for violating the nationwide lockdown in upper Assam’s Dibrugarh district.

Police have launched a crackdown on those who have violated the lockdown norms.

On Wednesday, several people were seen venturing out on roads without any reason.

Some people were also seen coming out of their homes with vehicles and travelling on the streets of Dibrugarh without any reason, said police.

“We have registered 28 cases and arrested 35 people so far for violating lockdown norms,” the officer-in-charge of Dibrugarh police station, Rajiv Saikia told Northeast Now.

“A total of 537 motorcycles, 21 four-wheelers, and four three-wheelers have been seized so far,” Saikia said.

“The public is not cooperating with us. Today, several people came out of their homes without any reason. We appeal to everyone to stay home and not to venture outside their homes without any reason,” he added.

The Assam Police have so far arrested 1,182 people for violating lockdown norms imposed in view of the coronavirus (COVID19) outbreak.

A total of 504 cases were registered across Assam for violation of lockdown norms till Tuesday.

It has been alleged that in some places, the people are not maintaining social distancing.

The district administration has issued order asking the people to maintain social distancing but some people are taking it casually.

“The people are violating the lockdown order in Dibrugarh and so far 35 people have been arrested. We appeal to the people to stay home and stay safe and not to violate the lockdown order,” said the Dibrugarh superintendent of police, Sreejith T.

The police are also keeping close watch on the social media posts so that no misinformation or fake news on COVID19 is circulated.
