The National Investigation Agency (NIA) has said that Burdwan blast accused Sahanur Alom was behind the Jamaat-ul-Mujahideen Bangladesh (JMB) module busted in Lower Assam’s Barpet district in December last year.

The NIA shared the information with a NIA special court in Guwahati on Friday while filing the first supplementary chargesheet in Barpeta JMB case.

The JMB is a banned Islamist terror outfit that operates in India and Bangladesh.

In the chargesheet, the NIA named two accused — Hafizur Rahman and Azaharuddin Ahmed — under charges of Unlawful Activities (Prevention) Act.

The case was re-registered by the NIA on December 21 last year, which had arisen out of the First Information Report (FIR) registered by Assam Police in Barpeta district on July 30 last year.

On July 30 last year, Barpeta Police conducted a search at the house of Hafizur Rahman, a resident of Karagarigaon in Barpeta.

During the search, one countrymade revolver, four rounds of live ammunition and Jehadi literature were reportedly recovered from Rahman’s house.

Accordingly, a case was registered at Barpeta police station against Rahman.

On the disclosure of Rahman, other trained cadres of JMB, Yakub Ali, Sariful Islam, Mustafizur Rahman, Md. Hafiz Safikul Islam and Azaharuddin Ahmed, were subsequently arrested.

The NIA had already filed charge-sheet against the five accused — Hafizur Rahman, Yakub Ali, Sariful Islam, Mustafizur Rahman and Md. Hafiz Safikul Islam– on January 24 in the case.

“Investigation has revealed that accused persons are trained members of JMB. They were recruited by one Sahanur Alom alias Sahanur Alam alias Doctor of Barpeta. Alom was earlier arrested by NIA in Burdwan blast case on October 10, 2014,” the NIA said.

As per the agency, Alom has already been convicted and sentenced to eight years of imprisonment in Burdwan blast case on charges of conspiracy to commit terrorist acts in India and recruiting and training other members of JMB.

The accused in the case had undergone training as JMB cadres in Barpeta at the house of Alom and some of the accused were also trained at Simulia Madrasa in West Bengal, the NIA said.

“They procured weapons and ammunition in a conspiracy to commit terrorist acts in pursuance of Jehadi Ideology of JMB”, said the agency.

“Further investigations continue in the case,” it said.
