Senior journalist Ajit Kr Bhuyan, backed by opposition Congress and AIUDF and Bhubaneswar Kalita, backed by ruling BJP, filed their papers at Assam Legislative Assembly.

All the three candidates, who have filed their nominations for seats of the Rajya Sabha from Assam, on Friday looked set to get elected unopposed.

Senior journalist Ajit Kr Bhuyan, backed by opposition Congress and AIUDF and Bhubaneswar Kalita, backed by ruling BJP, filed their papers at Assam Legislative Assembly here on Friday, the last day of nominations, at Dispur here.

Biswajit Daimary, two-time Rajya Sabha MP and a BPF member had filed his nomination papers on Wednesday.

All the three candidates are now expected to be declared elected on March 18, the last date for withdrawal of nominations.

They will be elected unopposed as no one filed nomination for the third seat against the opposition candidate.

After filing his nomination, opposition backed Ajit Bhuyan said that he is committed to raise the concerns of the State in the Rajya Sabha.

“We will raise our voice against Citizenship Amendment Act (CAA) in the parliament in the days to come,” Bhuyan told reporters.
