South Tripura MLA Sudhan Das on Tuesday informed the media that a deaf and mute girl was raped in Radhanagar village of the district on March 4.
An FIR was lodged with Puran Rajbari Police station on March 9 after the victim narrated about the incident to her relatives by sign language.
Based on the FIR, the police on Tuesday arrested one Anil Barman- the prime accused in the case.
The girl, who lost both her parents, lives with her relatives.
Interacting with the media the MLA said that since the girl is unable to speak, hence she was unable to narrate the horrific incident event after several days of its occurrence.
Police informed that the girl was raped by Barman, who is a tea seller, when she had gone to the market on March 4.
