Former Nagaland minister Noklem Konyak passed away on Sunday at Dimapur.

Noklem C Konyak was elected to the Nagaland Legislative Assembly in 1982 from the Tehok Assembly Constituency and also became a minister.

He was 72 years at the time of his demise.

Nagaland deputy chief minister Y Patton has expressed his deep condolence at the demise of the former minister Noklem Konyak

Patton tweeted: “The news of passing away of former Minister Shri C Nocklem Konyak is heartbreaking. Late Shri Konyak will always be remembered for his sincerity & his service to the people he represented and the state.

He added: “My heartfelt condolences to the bereaved family. May his soul rest in peace!”

Nagaland Legislative Assembly Sharingain Longkumer has also condoled Konyak’s demise.

Sharingain Longkumer in his condolence message said late Noklem was a diligent and dedicated man who worked sincerely for the welfare and upliftment of his constituency and the people of Nagaland.

The president of the ruling National Democratic Progressive Party (NDPP), Chingwang Konyak, has also condoled the passing away of Noklem C Konyak.

In his condolence message, Chingwang Konyak said: “I am grieved to learn of the unfortunate demise of Nocklem Konyak this morning after a prolonged illness.”

“I have personally known him since he was young and had watched his social involvement from his college days and, impressed with his sincerity and dedication for the uplift of his people and in 1982 he successfully contested from Tehok Assembly Constituency.”

“Being an altruistic, generous and forthcoming in many ways to his people, he was elected from the Constituency consecutively for three times.”

“His concern for our Eastern Naga people is legendary and it was with a sad and heavy heart that I went to his residence to pay my last respects this morning. His demise is a very great loss for the Eastern Nagaland people in general and for the Konyak Nagas in particular,” said the NDPP president.

“The rank and file of the NDPP joins me in conveying our heartfelt condolences to the bereaved family members. We pray that Almighty grant solace and comfort to the bereaved family members at this time of bereavement,” the NDPP chief said.
