Can alcohol drinking protect a person from coronavirus?

According to the World Health Organisation (WHO), alcohol drinking can neither protect a person from coronavirus nor it can kill the deadly virus.

So if someone forwards a message to you saying – ‘drink alcohol to stay safe and kill the deadly virus’ please ignore it as it will not help you keep safe and healthy.

Now, several such misinformation and misconceptions are doing the round which should be prevented from spreading.

In India, a total of 31 people have been diagnosed with the deadly novel coronavirus.

Keeping aside misconceptions, myths, and misinformation about coronavirus, the WHO said: “No. Spraying alcohol or chlorine all over your body will not kill viruses that have already entered your body.”

As per WHO, spraying such substances can be harmful to clothes or eyes and mouth.

The world health agency also said: “Be aware that both alcohol and chlorine can be useful to disinfect surfaces, but they need to be used under appropriate recommendations.”

According to the World Health Organisation, cleaning your hands frequently with alcohol-based hand rub or washing them with soap and water can protect yourself against the deadly virus.

The WHO also said that taking a hot bath does not prevent coronavirus disease.

The global health agency also said the virus cannot be transmitted through goods manufactured in China or any country reporting COVID-19 cases.

As per reports, till Saturday, the total number of coronavirus cases recorded around the world was 101,492, with 3,485 deaths.

The fight against rumours and misinformation is a vital part of the battle against this deadly virus.
