Tension prevailed at Lahorijan area along Assam-Nagaland interstate border after Dimapur police detained a hundred people from the new field check gate for non possession of ILP which has been implemented recently in the district.

The detained people were later released after collecting penalties and issuing on spot ILP.

Thousands of residents of the Lahorijan area rushed to the spot as majority of the detained people were locals from neighbouring Assam.

The protesters blocked the AH1 and restricted movement of vehicles from either side which lasted for a couple of hours till evening.

“The checking has been happening since the past couple of days and was earlier limited to the town area. However, the authorities setting up an ILP check point at the New Field Check post and detaining locals has triggered panic and escalated the tension”, said a local resident.

Random checking of ILP in Dimapur and imposition of penalties has created fear and apprehension amongst the non-resident workers who go into Dimapur on a regular basis.

Dimapur district administration started issuing three categories of ILP forms from February 14 last and has been conducting regular checking of people coming to Dimapur from outside the state.
