The construction of broad gauge railway line between Mizoram border town Bairabi and Sairang near Aizawl is scheduled to be completed by 2022, official sources said on Monday.

The sources said that railway board chairman Vinod Kumar Yadav called on chief minister Zoramthanga at his office on Monday.

The duo discussed about the ongoing railway project in the state.

Yadav also carried out an inspection of the ongoing construction of the 51.38   km Bairang-Sairang broad gauge railway line on Sunday.

The construction of the railway line began in 2015.

It will comprise of 32 underground tunnels, which altogether is 12.6 km long and 16 cut and cover tunnels.

The railway line will also passes through 184 bridges, including 55 major bridges and four stations at Hortoki, Kawnpui, Mualkhang and Sairang.

The cost of the project is Rs 5021.45 crore of which Rs. 3265.03 crore has been spent as in January this year.

88 per cent of cutting and 75 per cent for lining tunnels have been completed so far.
