Manipur PHE minister Losii Dikho

The authority in Manipur is taking up necessary steps to provide safe drinking water to every household in the State by 2024.

This was informed by state public health engineering (PHE) minister Losii Dikho on Friday.

PHE minister Dikho was giving clarification reacting to a policy cut motion by opposition Congress MLAs including K Ranjit Singh, R K Imo Singh, Alfred Kanngam Arthur during the day’s discussion and voting on demands for grants of PHE in the ongoing Assembly session.

A mega project under the funding of BRICS (Brazil, Russia, India, China and South Africa) and NDB (New Development Bank) will be taken up for implementation, he said.

Thoubal Dam water supply project undertaken through Chingkhei-Ching water reservoir will be commissioned by June this year, he added.

It may be mentioned that the demand for water in the greater Imphal area is 125 million litres per day, against the installed capacity of 104 million litres per day of the more than a dozen existing water supply plants.

On the other hand highlighting the works undertaken by Consumer Affairs Food & Public Distribution(CAF & PD) during its demand discussion in the House, CAF & PD Minister Karam Shyam informed that the National Food Security Act 2013 was implemented in the State on April 2016 and 87 per cent of the population (Census 2011) was targeted to be covered under the Act.

As of now 84.14 per cent of the population in the State has been covered.

He further said proposal for construction of six more FCS godowns were sent to the central ministry of which two have been approved and the remaining four is under process.

Regarding any grievances in Public Distribution System, he appealed the people of the State through the House to complaint to the additional deputy commissioners who are the district grievance redressal officers of their respective districts.

Meanwhile, veterinary and animal husbandry minister V Hangkhanlian informed the House that the Department has set a target to produce disease free livestock in the State by 2030.

The House also passed the Kangla Fort (Amendment) Bill, 2020 (Bill No 5 of 2020) and the Manipur University of Culture (Amendment) Bill 2020 (Bill No 6 of 2020).
