Indian Railways is all set to give New Delhi railway station a major facelift with Rs 6,500 crore revamp plan.

According to media reports, union railway ministry led by Piyush Goyal has drawn up an ambitious plan to turn the New Delhi railway station into a world-class airport-style transit hub.

It has been reported that the initial bids for the New Delhi railway station redevelopment project worth Rs 6,500 crore are expected to be invited within a few months.

The New Delhi railway station will be re-developed by the Northern Railways along with the Railway Land Development Authority (RLDA) on a Public-Private Partnership (PPP) mode.

The report quoted Railway Board chairman VK Yadav as saying that for the arrival and departure of the passengers, the New Delhi railway station will have separate entry and exit points.

The report quoted VK Yadav as saying: “Under the proposed plan for the New Delhi railway station elevated access roads will be built, similar to several airports.”

He also said the huge project will take around four years for completion after the tenders are awarded.

The Railway Board chairman also informed that the first phase of the New Delhi railway station redevelopment project will also involve the development of approximately 110 acres of land.

It may be mentioned that Indian Railways continues to beautify most of the railway stations across the country.

As part of its beautification project, the Dimapur railway station in Nagaland has been given an airport-like look.

The main entrance of the Dimapur railway station has been given a completely different look with a Naga traditional touch.

The railway station is the second busiest railway station in Northeast India.

Now, this railway station has been equipped with airport-like world-class facilities.
