The Department of Social Welfare, Government of Manipur has bagged the third position for exemplary performance in implementation of Pradhan Mantri Matru Vandana Yojana (PMMVY) scheme during Matru Vandana Saptah (MVS).

Manipur has been selected for the award in the category of states/union territories having population of less than one crore.

Dadra & Nagar Haveli and Sikkim bagged the first and second position respectively under this category.

Director Ngangom Uttam Singh and Deputy Secretary Dr Sonia Oinam of state Social Welfare department received the award from union minister of women and child development Smriti Irani at an award function held in New Delhi on Monday ,according to official sources in Imphal.

Union minister Irani appreciated improvement in enrolment from 29 per cent to 71 per cent during the last one year under Pradhan Mantri Matru Vandana Yojana during the Matru Vandana Saptah.

Social welfare and cooperation minister Nemcha Kipgen lauded the Department for this feat and expressed that it was the concerted efforts of all concern officials, officers and line departments that such laurels are achieved for Manipur.

She also encouraged all to continue striving hard for the welfare of the State through various schemes and programmes implemented by the Government.

Manipur minister on behalf of the Department of Social Welfare also extended gratitude to all the district commissioners, Health Department, banks, India Post Office, Child Development project officers, supervisors, Anganwadi workers, helpers for their active participation.

In Manipur, altogether 30,481 beneficiaries have been enrolled since the beginning of the PMMVY scheme.

Special enrolment help desk were opened during matru Vandana Saptah in all government hospitals, community health centres, public health centres, sub-centres and private hospitals for facilitating on spot registration for eligible beneficiaries under PMMVY.

The main objective of the PMMVY scheme is to provide incentives of Rs 5,000 to pregnant women and lactating mothers for first living child of the family in three installments for the loss of wages of working women and to ensure their proper rest and nutrition during pregnancy.

The payment of the incentive amount is deposited directly into the bank account.

The MVS is a week-long maternity benefit programme which was taken up under PMMVY from December 2-8, 2019 to intensify the implementation of the scheme; create a healthy competition among states/UTs and felicitate states/UTs and districts for exemplary performance in implementation of PMMVY since its inception and during MVS.
