A Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF) jawan on Wednesday shot himself at Mankachar in South Salmara district.
The deceased has been identified as Dwijen Kumar of 48th Battalion of CRPF. The jawan hails from Gosaighat village under Hajo police station in Kamrup district.
CRPF sources said Kumar shot himself using a service rifle at around 7: 15 am at the camp in Mankachar. The reason behind the suicide is yet to be known.
Even though he was rushed to a local hospital, the doctor declared him ‘brought dead’.
After the incident, a top CRPF told media persons that the body will be handed over to the family after completion of legal and medical formalities.
