Aishwarya Rai

If everything goes as planned, Aishwarya Rai Bachchan will come back to silver screen as Noti Binodini.

The 46-year-old actor has reportedly given green signal to work with filmmaker Pradeep Sarkar in his next film—a biopic on Binodini Das, also known as Noti Binodini.

Binodini was a 19th century courtesan, who began working as an actor at the age of 12.

She also wrote her own biography, Amar Katha (The Story of My Life), which was published in 1913.

Sarkar, who’s made films like Mardaani and Parineeta, was keen to bring out the life of Binodini on the big screen.

Speaking about the film, Sarkar said, “It is quite a tough story to crack, as there is hardly any material to read up on her. I have a person who is helping me with the research from Kolkata.”

“Aishwarya was always on my mind for the biopic. I did reach out to her a few months ago. In the first narration itself, she liked the story and has said ‘yes’ to the project,” Sarkar told Bombay Times.

Sarkar said what all Binodini had to do to achieve her goal makes an interesting story.

“She faced a lot of ups and downs. People, who were close to her, took her for a ride. Usne bohot saare dhokhe khaaye hain. It’s a wonderful tale and I hope things fall into place,” he said.

Aishwarya’s last film was 2018’s Fanney Khan and she also has Mani Ratnam’s ambitious project, Ponniyin Selvan.
