The ruling Congress party has decided to contest from all the 60 seats while the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) will field party candidates for only 47 seats in the poll-bound Meghalaya.

The Meghalaya Assembly polls will be held on February 27.

The Congress and the BJP have announced their final list of candidates on Monday evening.

The three remaining candidates of the Congress are former Meghalaya Education Minister Manas Chaudhuri who will fight from the South Shillong constituency, Banpynshngaiñlang Rumnong who will fight from Pynthorumkhrah constituency and Diolinda Dkhar who will fight from the Khliehriat Assembly constituency.

It may be mentioned that Chaudhuri was denied ticket by the Bharatiya Janata Party.

The BJP gave the ticket to former NCP legislator, Sanbor Shullai.

On the other hand, the BJP has decided to field two more candidates – former member of the Khasi Hills Autonomous District Council (KHADC), Field Marshall Mawphniang from the Umroi Assembly constituency and former president of the Ri-Bhoi Youth Federation, Ban Buhai Makdoh from the Mawhati Assembly constituency.

For the 60-member Meghalaya Legislative Assembly, the BJP is fielding party candidates only for 47 seats.
