As the All Assam Students’ Union (AASU) is spearheading the anti-CAA movement across Assam, two bike-borne miscreants attacked the president of the Paneri regional unit of the students’ body on Thursday.

According to police, two unidentified bike-borne miscreants attacked a Bolero vehicle (AS12-T-2443) in which the president of Paneri regional unit of AASU, Entajul Islam, 27 along with 3 of his friends were travelling on Thursday late night.

Islam and his friends were returning from a relative’s place in Udalguri.

The incident occurred at Christenpara under Paneri police station in the Udalguri district.

The windowpane on the side of the driver and the rearview mirror on the right side were damaged in the incident as per police.

Police, however, said no one was injured in the attack.

The Udalguri superintendent of police, Ripul Das, said, “It is not an incident of firing. It appears to be an incident of road rage as the Bolero had its headlights in the upper mode which might have irked the bike-borne youths and the latter might have hurled stones to damage the window panes.”

The Bhergaon sub-divisional police officer (SDPO) Nirmal Ghosh also refuted the claims of any firing or use of firearms in the incident.

Ghosh said, “The investigations are on. Everything will be clear after the investigation.”

The student leader has lodged an FIR in connection with the attack.
